How to make a 3D book mockup
- Add your front cover. Click the Front cover box or drop the file straight onto the preview. The book reshapes itself to your cover's proportions, so a 5 × 8 novel and a square children's book both come out right.
- Match the real book. Pick hardcover or paperback and set the page count. The spine thickens as you raise it, which helps a 120-page guide look slim and a 700-page fantasy look hefty.
- Find your angle. Use a preset, or drag to spin the book anywhere above the floor. "Hero" is the classic three-quarter shot most stores and ads use.
- Download. Choose a size and save a PNG (transparent) or JPG (with background). 2400 px is plenty for social posts and websites; take 4000 px for print or zoomable store images.
Why this generator is different
Most free book mockup tools paste your cover onto a fixed photo. That works until you want a slightly different angle, a thicker spine or the back cover. Here the book is an actual 3D object lit in a virtual studio, so every setting changes the real geometry instead of swapping templates.
- Private by design. Your cover is processed with WebGL on your own computer or phone. There is no upload step, no account and no copy kept anywhere.
- True thickness. Page count drives the spine depth, and hardcovers get boards that overhang the page block just like a cased book.
- Any angle, any time. Six quick views plus free rotation, standing or lying flat.
- Clean edges for designers. Transparent PNG output with a soft contact shadow you can dial from bold to none.
Getting the best result from your cover file
Use the front panel only
If you only have the full print wrap (back + spine + front in one file), crop out the front panel before uploading. Cut the spine into its own image if you want it printed on the 3D spine; otherwise the tool tints the spine with a colour sampled from your cover's left edge.
Remove white borders and bleed
Print files often include 3 mm (0.125 in) of bleed and sometimes a white margin. Trim both, or the edge of the 3D cover will show a thin stripe that real books do not have.
Recommended sizes
| Book type | Typical trim | Front cover pixels (300 DPI) |
|---|---|---|
| Kindle / ebook | 1.6 : 1 ratio | 1600 × 2560 |
| Fiction paperback | 5 × 8 in | 1500 × 2400 |
| Non-fiction / textbook | 6 × 9 in | 1800 × 2700 |
| Workbook | 8.5 × 11 in | 2550 × 3300 |
| Square picture book | 8.5 × 8.5 in | 2550 × 2550 |
Picking a page count
Enter the printed page count from your proof or listing. As a rough guide on standard 70 gsm paper, 100 pages is about 6 mm thick and 400 pages about 23 mm. If the spine looks too fat or thin next to a printed copy, nudge the slider until it matches by eye.
Where authors and publishers use 3D book images
A flat cover tells people what the book is called. A 3D book tells them it is real, finished and ready to buy. Good places to use it:
- Amazon A+ Content modules and Flipkart product images
- Cover reveal posts on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn
- Book pages on your author website and course landing pages
- Lead magnets and free-chapter opt-in boxes in email marketing
- Pre-order banners, press kits and launch announcements
- Coaching, training or institute brochures that bundle a printed guide
Frequently asked questions
Is my cover uploaded to a server?
No. The image is read by your browser and drawn with WebGL on your own device. Nothing is sent to 3dmockups.in or anywhere else, so unpublished covers stay private.
What size should my cover image be?
Use the front cover only, at least 1600 pixels tall. A 1600 × 2560 Kindle cover or a 6 × 9 inch print front at 300 DPI (1800 × 2700) both work well. Larger files are scaled down automatically to what your graphics card supports.
How do I get a mockup with no background?
Keep the background on Transparent and click Download PNG. The book and its soft floor shadow are saved on a see-through background, ready to place on any design. Set the shadow slider to 0% if you want the book alone.
Can I show the spine and back cover?
Yes. Upload a spine image and a back cover image in the optional slots, then use the Spine or Back view buttons, or drag the book around.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Drag with one finger to rotate and pinch to zoom. For the 4000 px export a laptop or recent phone is best, because very large renders need more graphics memory.
Can I use the mockups commercially?
Yes. Images you create are yours to use in ads, store listings, websites and social posts, provided you own the rights to the cover artwork you upload. No attribution is required, though a link back is always appreciated.
Is there a watermark?
No watermark, no signup and no download limit.
